You are about to enter an in-depth guide to the characters, planets and lore of Zack Snyder’sRebel Moon

Welcome to a sprawling universe of warring factions and deep history, teeming strongholds, and backwater villages. From the heart of Motherworld to the outskirts of the known galaxy beyond the reach of the Imperium, this is your guide to Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon.

Motherworld lies at the heart of the Imperium, a decaying empire in the middle of a planetary system revolving around twin suns.

Moa is the Imperium throne world, a harsh environment full of sniping politicians and military machinations, and powered by arcane technologies.

Its rulers’ hunger for the galaxy’s resources only grows as they devour everything in their path.

On Motherworld, 1,886 kings ruled in unbroken succession.

THE SLAIN KING

The last monarch of the old kingdom was initially hell-bent on a ruthless expansion of power. But the birth of his daughter, Princess Issa, radically changed how he saw his kingdom’s place in the universe. This shift to a more peaceful relationship with the galaxy led to a murderous coup, severing the royal bloodline.

PRINCESS ISSA

The radiant heir to the throne of Motherworld was prophesied to reset her crumbling, warlike kingdom. But her growing influence over her father disturbed the ruling class, and a group of senators — including the future Regent Balisarius — overthrew and murdered Issa and her father, bringing an end to the peaceful prophecy that surrounded her and the reign of the royal family.

BALISARIUS

A military hero turned politician, Balisarius created a coalition of senators and other powerful interests who stewed over the increasing benevolence of their king. When the king christened a vast Imperial Dreadnought as a vessel of peace, they seized their opportunity and removed him from the throne.

Following the brutal assassination that wiped out the royal family, corrupt dignitaries claimed power. The slain king’s disarmament campaign was brought to a brutal halt, and in its place rose a new and unforgiving regime. The story of Rebel Moon picks up five years later…

ATTICUS NOBLE

True to his name, Admiral Atticus Noble is the son of a noble family from Motherworld. Cruel and unwilling to compromise, the Imperium official stalks the realm in search of rebels. He brings the full force of the King’s Gaze — his mighty dreadnought — down on any far-flung place like Veldt that dares to abet his prey.

LINEAGE

Born on Moa, the central planet of Motherworld

TRAINING

Graduate of the Academy Militarium, the elite preparatory school of Motherworld’s military forces

BONE STAFF

Noble carries a holy relic purported to come from the first kings of Motherworld; he uses it as a blunt instrument of control and destruction.

PRIESTS AND SCRIBES

The priests of the Imperium are the enigmatic keepers of Motherworld knowledge and religion, techno-disciples of its data-obsessed religion — a crucial component to Motherworld’s power. The Scribes holistically record events in supreme fidelity, downloading the data into “pages” — human beings whose prepared DNA holds libraries of the realm’s recorded history. Scribes are the ultimate witnesses to the majesty and tragedy of the Imperium’s will to power.

JC-1435

A mechanical knight errant, sworn to protect the now-deposed royal family. Newly without purpose, this “Jimmy” is adrift in the world, lifting boxes for Noble’s military task unit left behind on Veldt.

LOYAL TO THE BLOODLINE

The Jimmys are robotic bodyguards built to protect the royal bloodline and vigilantly wait for the return of the mythical Princess Issa. After the death of the royal family, they laid down their arms and refused to fight any longer.

LIMITED EDITION

Created centuries ago, there were originally only 12 Jimmys; later their numbers grew into the thousands.

WITHOUT PURPOSE

In the wake of the royal family’s assassination, the Jimmys wander and even disappear. At times, they have been repurposed by the Imperium for physical labor and grunt work.

UNDER ARMOR

The Jimmys’ ornate armor includes chalice symbols of Issa the Lifegiver, for whose return they vigilantly watch. Surrounding the chalice are the intertwined Wolf and the Würm, whose battle is part of Motherworld’s cosmic creation myth; they’re bound to an endless cycle of hunger, hunting, and consequence.

AREA OF DETAIL

Like the cosmic Wolf, the Imperium now prowls through the stars, gobbling up planets and resources. This ravenous appetite has outpaced the Imperium’s supply, leading to an endless hunt that leads them further and further away from Moa…

WHEAT

The fields of wheat that cover much of the Veldt moon are essential to its people — and because food sources are an unstable resource in the galaxy, the fertile harvest is also the reason the farming community will soon be threatened. The villagers of Veldt rely on wheat for food and for bartering. But when the dreaded Imperium descends and demands a wheat tithe from the village, our story is set into motion.

VELDT

A MOON THAT ORBITS THE GIANT GAS PLANET OF MARA. HOME TO THE IDYLLIC FARMING VILLAGE AT THE HEART OF REBEL MOON.

POSITION IN THE REALM

A backwater world outside of Motherworld’s sphere of influence

PRIMARY SOURCE OF COMMERCE

KORA

A stranger with a mysterious past who is taken in by a small farming community after crash-landing near their village on the backwater moon of Veldt. She possesses unparalleled combat abilities, a skill set she keeps secret until the armies of Motherworld threaten her village with annihilation.

LINEAGE

An offworlder adopted by Regent Balisarius, then an Imperium officer, after her family was slaughtered by Motherworld. Kora was unwittingly raised to be the perfect killer.

TRAINING

Kora trained at the elite levels of the Academy Militarium, years after Noble — although her offworlder status had to be kept a careful secret.

ESCAPE

In the wake of the royal family’s assassination, it took Kora nearly three years to make it from Moa to Veldt.

KORA’S BURDEN

Kora’s sidearm is inscribed with a cryptic saying: “My life for hers.” A sturdy weapon that, for Kora, bears the weight of her former duty as Royal Seneschal and bodyguard of Princess Issa, and the shame she carries for her ultimate failure to protect her charge. Kora continues to wield the weapon as a reminder of its tragic history.

HAGEN

A villager who takes Kora in after her ship crashes in the wheat fields of the Veldt. He encourages her to make a life there, but Kora is a child of war, broken and unable to call any place home.

SAM

A farm girl whose quiet strength and purity of spirit quickens Jimmy’s heart, waking him to a purpose once again, and setting in motion a chain reaction destined to turn the tide of the coming battle for Veldt.

GUNNAR

A naive farmer who joins Kora on a journey to find warriors who will protect Veldt from the Imperium. Gunnar is desperate to make up for the mistake that put his village in danger: selling their surplus wheat to the Bloodaxe rebels. As the pair venture out on their quest, Gunnar will have to draw deep from within himself to find the strength to continue. His heart is open, but will that be enough?

GUNNAR

So you were a soldier

for the Motherworld?

And fought for the Realm?

KORA

You could say that.

GUNNAR

Of high rank, I

suppose. Are you wanted

for desertion?

KORA

That and more.

Anything else you

want to ask me?

As a child, Kora’s life was spared by Balisarius and he adopted her as his own daughter.

Balisarius named her Arthelais and taught her the hard lessons of war.

Kora attended the Academy Militarium and was remade in the image of her adoptive father.

At the age of 18, she was made an officer, given a command, and fought for the king under the banner of the army that murdered her family.

Following Kora’s military success, Balisarius engineered an appointment to act as Royal Seneschal and bodyguard to the king’s daughter, the Princess Issa.

Issa was called the Chalice, the Redeemer, the Lifesaver — a divine being born of flesh and blood who was said to have the power to restore life.

The galaxy’s faithful believe that Issa could usher in a new age of peace and compassion after years of war.

Issa’s benevolent influence over her once-fearsome father frightened his warmongering allies, and the ambitions of Balisarius overrode his loyalty to the king. The coup struck with fury, and the world was forever changed.

PORT CITY OF PROVIDENCE

VELDT

A port city about two days’ ride from Kora’s village. Providence is not a place for lingering, just for passing through. Everything is for sale for anyone who has money, or doesn’t mind paying with blood.

KAI

A smuggler with enough roguish charm to fill the cargo hold of his ship, a Tawau-class freighter that he agrees to pilot for Kora and Gunnar. Kai is an incorrigible scoundrel and proud of it, but he seems to be won over to the ragtag duo’s sincere belief in their cause.

HOME WORLD

Kai is known by his enemies as the bastard from Saaldorun, a planet razed by Motherworld.

NEU-WODI

A SPRAWLING, ARID LANDSCAPE HOME TO SCATTERED SETTLEMENTS AND RANCHES.

TARAK

The first of Kora and Gunnar’s recruits in their fight against Motherworld, Tarak is an indentured servant currently indebted to the hard Neu-Wodi taskmaster Hickman. But he’s much more than he seems: Tarak was once another planet’s beloved prince.

HOME WORLD

Samandrai, where he ruled as crown prince.

DEBT

According to Hickman, Tarak owes a debt of 300,000 darams for crimes against Motherworld.

HICKMAN

A rancher turned labor camp warden who profits from Tarak’s debt. The greedy Hickman strikes a bargain to set Tarak free from Neu-Wodi if he can break the wild and dangerous Bennu, a giant griffin-like creature in Hickman's possession.

DARAMS

The coin of the realm, although there are plenty of less above-board techniques for paying off an associate with smuggled black market resources.

TARAK’S BOND

Hickman won this majestic creature in a game of chance on Samandrai. Unbeknownst to him, Tarak wears a pendant bearing the symbol of a bennu, the sigil of his royal house.

DAGGUS

AN INDUSTRIAL COBALT-MINING PLANET WITH A BARREN SURFACE.

INHABITANTS

A truly intergalactic place where the displaced and desperate have come from across the galaxy, seeking work in the massive cobalt mines below the city.

A CORRUPT DEAL

Unable to support life without massive importation of resources, Daggus is utterly dependent on Motherworld. So, the corporations that govern it turn a blind eye to the pillaging of their planet in exchange for a small share of the profit and the continued indifference of armies of the realm.

NEMESIS

A master swordswoman whose arms have been severed at the elbow and replaced with a pair of mechanized prosthetics gauntlets that allow her to wield molten hot swords with unmatched speed and skill. The ancestral swords, forged from oracle steel, burn with the vengeful fire of her home world.

HOME WORLD

Nemesis hails from the rural fishing village of Byeol.

PAST

She has no love for the Imperium; the forces of Motherworld were responsible for the death of her family.

TRAINING

Nemesis hails from a culture of once-great warriors, who lost their combat skills following generations of peace. After Imperium armies destroyed her village, Nemesis picked up the mantle of her ancestors, binding herself to a path of revenge.

LINK TO THE PAST

Like her swords, Nemesis’ mechanized gauntlets are forged from oracle steel, a sympathetic metal with a close bond to the people and history of her home world. Once bound to the weapons, she and the artifacts became inseparable. The knowledge of the old ways is awakened in her blood, making her the swordmaster that fate doomed her to become. Vengeance would be her only path out of grief.

HARMADA

Harmada, one of the last of the Ogumo, is an enormous spider, one of a kind that were once plentiful in the underworld of Daggus. Poisoned by the relentless mining of her home, the toxic environment has made her offspring unviable.

HARMADA

What about my pain?

I want justice.

TITUS

A former general who fought for Motherworld. Titus reached a crisis of conscience in the wake of the king’s assassination. Sent to the planet of Sarawu and commanded to fire upon its rebellious parliament, Titus disobeyed, resulting in the deaths of his men and his own exile. Disgraced, he found his way to Pollux, where Kora inspires him to join the band of broken warriors with the promise of vengeance.

LOSS

In an unprecedented action for Motherworld, Titus’ dreadnought was destroyed and his troops executed for his treason.

DISHONOR

Rather than executing the general, the Imperium sent Titus into exile, cursed to live with only himself and the memory of his fallen men. On Pollux, he looks for salvation at the bottom of a bottle.

THE ARENA

Like Titus, the battlegrounds of Pollux have seen better days. While Castor is a first-class destination for the galaxy’s wealthy, Pollux is more like a bloody intergalactic farm league. Against a background of crumbling coliseums, a guilt-ridden Titus does his best to drink himself to death.

TITUS

I am beyond redemption.

KORA

I have no time for pity.

But what about all the dead

If not redemption...

What about revenge?

SHARAAN

HOME PLANET TO A CULTURE WITH A PHILOSOPHICAL LINEAGE OF SPIRITUAL LIBERATION THAT MEETS A BITTER FATE AT THE HANDS OF THE IMPERIUM.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Honor and charity.

AGE OF PLANET

The Sharaanic civilization dates back over 10,000 years.

KING LEVITICA

The benevolent king of Sharaan, Levitica agrees to help Kora by summoning the Bloodaxe rebels to whom he has offered safe quarter. It’s a choice that will cost him dearly when Noble and his dreadnought descend on the planet.

LINEAGE

The royal line of Sharaan.

CAUSE OF DEATH

The Bone Staff, wielded by Noble.

King Levitica spent years aiding Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe, the guerilla insurgents harrying the Imperium from the outskirts of the galaxy. In a twist, it was the Bloodaxes who purchased Veldt’s wheat surplus from Gunnar, setting Kora’s quest into motion. King Levitica’s final act is uniting the Bloodaxes with Kora’s growing team of warriors.

DEVRA BLOODAXE

The Bloodaxe siblings were children born from a noble family of Moa and the Wilderfolk of Shasu, nomadic peoples of their home planet who share a cultural lineage with Sharaan. As they continue to antagonize Motherworld, Veldt comes calling for help — a call that Devra initially rejects. Her brother has different ideas.

ZACK SNYDER

DARRIAN BLOODAXE

Brother of Devra and a formidable warrior whose hatred for the Imperium is equaled only by his love for his family. Darrian feels honorbound to join Kora’s stand against Motherworld’s imperialism and will sacrifice everything to cut Noble’s ambitions short.

MILIUS

In its brutal expansion across the galaxy, Motherworld has left a trail of refugees and orphans in its wake — including Milius. A motivated Bloodaxe fighter who joined the resistance after being liberated from an Imperium labor camp, Milius volunteers to join Darrian and the heroes of Veldt in their fight for those unable to defend their homeland.

THE KING’S GAZE

The King’s Gaze is Admiral Atticus Noble’s dreadnought, a fearsome vessel that contains drop ships and mech-carriers, alongside hordes of Motherworld troops.

CLICK AND DRAG TO

EXPLORE THE DREADNOUGHT

Dreadnoughts are the Imperium’s flagship destroyers, massive troop carriers spiked with weaponry and ancient technology.

A troop carrier that’s also heavily outfitted with brutal weaponry, the Imperium drop ship has become a fixture of Motherworld’s conquests. It’s an effective vehicle for delivering troops from the dreadnought to a planet’s surface, all while laying down a carpet of fire around the landing zone.

A smaller vessel for Noble’s personal use, this ship has its berth in the bow of his dreadnought.

GONDIVAL

AN INDUSTRIAL WAY STATION FLOATING ABOVE A LOW-ORBITING MOON. HERE, OUR REBELS FACE OFF AGAINST THEIR ENEMY.

FLOATING DOCKS

Kai forces the Veldt crew to stop above Gondival under false pretenses, claiming to have buyers waiting for a delivery. It’s a believable story; the docks here have seen thousands of similar transactions.

But Kai betrayed the group and it takes a heroic sacrifice from Darrian for Kora and her compatriots to claim victory. The battle is finally over after Noble falls to his death, and our heroes head for Veldt. All is well…

or is it?

CRYO CHAMBER

The ruling classes of Motherworld pride themselves on their cybernetic augmentation, and Noble is no exception. After his seemingly fatal fall, Noble’s body is brought to a healing chamber that will not only revive him but also make him more powerful than ever.

ASTRAL PLANE

Noble’s technological enhancements allow him to ascend to a mysterious astral plane, maintained for the wealthiest members of the Imperium. There, he meets with his leader: the merciless Regent Balisarius. Upon revealing that he’s discovered the Scargiver, Balisarius dispatches his servant with a new mission: crush the rebels and bring Kora to him. The stage is set for the battle of Veldt.

TARAK

This would have

been a beautiful

place to die.

KORA

Yes it would.

THE BATTLE FOR VELDT

The rebels’ reprieve is short-lived. Soon, Motherworld ships descend on Veldt once again, led by a resurrected Atticus Noble. Our daring heroes will have to train the villagers to fight — and face their own dark pasts — in order to prevail against the forces of the Imperium.
